These projects engage family, friends, and community in the creation of a group experience. Through participating in these events we find ourselves in new contexts and new relationships with others.

Stains music video Music by Flying 2007
A group of strangers was assembled by Sara Magenheimer and Erica Magrey. They were invited to interpret Flying's song, "Stains", in whatever form of dance they liked. They were also invited to try specific moves together. The group was given colorful sweatpants that had been collected from thrift stores across the american south.

Through the Trees, Through the Glass a collaboration with Robert Stillman 2007
Video collage by Sara Magenheimer. Sound piece by Robert Stillman. Visual themes are travel, looking through a camera through a glass window, and the animals encountered on the road. Premiered at the High Line Festival.
Group Dreams: Collaborations with students at the Churchill School

These projects are part of an ongoing interest in group consciousness, reenactments and dramatizations of unconsciously created events. I gave students at the Churchill School in Manhattan journals and asked them to keep track of their dreams for a few weeks. Every time we met we would tell our dreams and transcribe them in to a giant group Dream Journal. Then we picked various dreams and combined them into one Group Dream. We all helped each other act out our dreams, and acted in each other's dreams as well. We even created objects from the dreams.

FLYING 2004-present
Flying is a band formed by Sara Magenheimer, Eben Portnoy and Eliot Krimsky. Flying has performed all over the United States and a few places in Canada and Europe. We made an album called Just-One-Second-Ago Broken Eggshell, and another, Faces of the Night, due out February 19th, 2008 on Menlo Park Recordings. Flying's music can be heard here or here.

Fertile Crescent 2006-present
Fertile Crescent is a performance, sound, and music project. It is a collaboration between Sara Magenheimer and Eben Portnoy. Past performances have included a set of Bob Dylan covers with only voice and drums, and a performance from inside a personal cave using only voices. You can check up on Fertile Crescent here.
Performance Events
Hair 2000-present
I have been cutting hair since I was old enough to use scissors. This is an ongoing project in which I provide a hair cutting service in exchange for something of equal value. Services for which a haircut has been exchanged: installation of car stereo, bicycle tune-up, drum lesson, cooking, etc.

Stains Costumes 2007
These are costumes created for the members of Flying for use in the Stains music video. They are very enjoyable to wear because of all the layers, so they have been worn in live performances as well.
